When my daughter was born and we started looking at a lot of children’s books, Oliver Jeffer’s book had just came out and it was an instant classic in our house. This same thinking translated to almost anyone who has read this book or many of Jeffers’ other books. It’s a simple, beautiful story about friendship, plus a penguin.

I loved the book so much I have a signed print of one of the illustrations from the book, that’s how much I like it. So when we heard they made an animated film of this we just had to see it. We saw it earlier this year at a kids film festival and since that I had been wanting to get a DVD copy of it. Unfortunately, you can only get it in the UK, thus Amazon to the rescue.

What’s great on the DVD is the making of extra, interviewing Jeffers as well as the changes, or rather, how they expounded on the book. There’s some great insights that I had never interpreted, but it’s really the soundtrack that blows me away. Whether you have kids or not, definitely watch this film or better yet, get the book.
