This is one of the most fascinating, educational and frightening films I’ve seen in a long time. Jacques Vergès is absolutely fascinating and the depth of interviews with him, terrorists who are still wanted, terrorists who are old and were granted their freedom and the sheer volume of this man’s life is truly astounding.

If you’ve never heard of Jacques Vergès, he’s a French-Vietnamese lawyer who has defended the world’s most infamous terrorists, or as he puts it, those who believe that colonialism has destroyed their worth and country and are attempting to liberate themselves from that tyranny. He has represented Djamila Bouhared during the Battle for Algiers,  Algeria’s FLN, Palestine’s FPLP, the Khmer Rouge, Carlos the Jackal, Klaus Barbie and other Nazi’s and when asked if he would represent Hitler, he replied that he’d even represent Bush!

This guy is an incredible personality and his story and this film is a must-see. I learned a great deal of history from this and can’t wait to watch The Battle of Algiers.

Thanks to Phillipp for the recommend.
