Director: Billy Wilder
Year: 1955

I gotta say, I love Billy Wilder films because they’re smartly written but this one just sucked. Sure, it’s supposed to be a pop classic, but the characters aren’t likeable. The technique of the protagonist just talking aloud and daydreaming scenarios just wasn’t that interesting. Even the classic scene of Marilyn with her dress over the subway grate was disappointing. I know the iconic shot, or rather, I know what has become the iconic shot, when in reality, the film only cropped down at her legs. Even the wittiness at the end where Richard Sherman tells Tom MacKenzie that he has Marilyn Monroe in the back… maybe that was surreal back then to have a meta moment, but it just deadpanned.
