★★

Director: Terry Zwigoff
Year: 2006

I had huge expectations for a Daniel Clowes‘ film, but that got shot down. I could see his wry humor in the writing, much like his graphic novels, but the execution and direction were very poor.  Either the entire film should have been even more over the top or been serious, not half-ass.

John Malkovich‘s character could have been so much more. I had a professor like him in university so it definitely had a realistic tone to it. And when he explains that it took him 20 years to be able to master painting triangles, that was classic. But the film needed more of that. The protagonist was annoying and every other stereotype didn’t come out of their shells.  Oh well.
