★★★★

Director: Tate Taylor
Year: 2011

It absolutely blows my mind that the subject and thoughts expressed in this film were actually the norm less than 50 years ago. It’s  frightening that people were so racist, biased and just unhuman. Frankly, some still are. But to have an entire state believe that there’s second class citizens… unbelievable that it was just in the 60s.

First off, Viola Davis is AMAZING. Definitely deserving of an Oscar for Best Actress. If you look at her IMDB photo and her performance, she’s not the same woman. She continues to amaze in almost every film that she’s in. I’m really blown away. The same can be said of Octavia Spencer. She took a role which almost sounded comedic, and created a fresh, original character.

Definitely an enjoyable, moving story that everyone should watch.
