50/50
★★★★
Director: Jonathan Levine
Year: 2011
I remember when this came out and didn’t think much about it. But when a film gets 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and is nominated for an Oscar, I suppose that’s a good sign. It starts off pretty bland, like a film school assignment. But it’s only after half way through that it becomes quite a film. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is terrific and his nail biting ticks and his niceness does get to you and that’s the point. It’s a film that makes you feel good, feel for the likeable loser and his dopey friend and you just hope he pulls through.
