Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
★★★
Director: Lasse Hallström
Year: 2011
Incredibly, I quite enjoyed this film. I remember seeing the trailer thinking this would be one of the stupidest films but it was surprisingly good. But you need to view it with the understanding that this is a very British film with very British characters. And then discovering that Lasse Hallström directed it makes it even more interesting.
I had never been an Emily Blunt fan, but she’s absolutely gorgeous in this film. The premise is ridiculous and it’s acknowledged. But I kept thinking, maybe this is based upon a true story which would make it even more bizarre. But it wasn’t. It’s based on a best selling book. I was pleasantly surprised.
