★★★

Director: Alfred Hitchcock
Year: 1934

I actually thought I would be watching the 1956 version of the film. Crazy that Hitchcock remade his own film. Anyway, assuming because of preservation issues, the quality I had wasn’t so great. Missing frames of the film, the sound out of sync at times, etc. But the film grows on you. It’s very slow to start but the last 5 minutes was terrific. You could see the master coming to life with plot twists and even building suspense by stitching various shots together. But culturally and film wise, it was so different back then. Fascinating.
