Les Miserables
★★★
Director: Tom Hooper
Year: 2012
Watching this as a film versus a Broadway musical was quite different, and in a good way. Some subtleties that I barely remember over 15 years ago were transformed into a clearer explanation and vision. Plus, it made the brilliance of the music and the incredible attention to detail with note changes and individual harmonies that much better. It really is a smart musical. However, what I didn’t like about the film was Russell Crowe and some of the other casting choices. Not to mention, the film got a bit rushed near the end. Granted, it’s about 3 hours long, but some portions were a little too quick. But lots to like if you enjoy musicals. If not, this is one super cheesy film.
