The Great Gatsby
★★★
Director: Baz Luhrmann
Year: 2013
I had read all of the bad reviews and expected a horrible film. But it’s not that bad. Partially, because the book is one of the greatest novels ever written. So if you have good material, you can’t fail too badly. But I was surprised to actually enjoy it. I felt entertained. In a poppy, mainstream sort of way. It’s an interesting take. Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan are good. But I really didn’t care for Tobey Maguire. He didn’t lose himself in his role. But the film made me appreciate just how amazing a book this really is. Makes me want to read it again.
