Pruitt-Igoe Myth
★★★★
Director: Chad Freidrichs
Year: 2011
Having gone to school, let alone architecture school, in St. Louis, I’ve always known about Pruitt-Igoe, the housing project that won a ton of awards based upon the Ideal City, only to have decayed in less than a decade and then demolished. But it’s the myth that’s stronger than the facts. So it was great to finally see this (It’s on Netflix and I had missed it when it was in theaters). I’ve driven through where it once stood and still remember the eeriness of it all. And this film not only gives a great history lesson but it’s mesmerizing soundtrack brings me back to the eeriness. Definitely worth checking out.
