Director: Philipp Stölzl

This was a film recommendation from Jan. And I’ve had the most difficult time trying to watch it since I could only find subtitle separated files and that doesn’t play so well on a mobile device. Well, let me just make a huge shoutout to the CineXPlayer app. The newest version supports .srt files and now I’m just watching a ton of foreign films that beforehand were impossible to view in transit.

Well, the film is insane. It tells the true story of two German’s during Nazi times attempting to climb the Eiger in the Alps, only to prove the German might. The cinematography on the cliff edges, the panning of the camera near the rocks are absolutely gorgeous. Not sure how they filmed it but it does make you want to see the behind the scenes.

However, I’m only giving it 3-stars because it’s a bit more historical rather than emotional, which it could/should have gone. When I compare this with something like Alive, it could have been edited very differently. But a great historic journey into this competition.
