★★★★

Director: Edgar Wright
Year: 2010

I really, really wanted to love this film. And if this film would have only been 30 minutes long I would have given it 5-stars. Edgar Wright is an absolute genius in how he directed his, the styling, editing, music, casting, everything was just really well done.

However, it’s more suited to a music video than to a full-length film.  Or maybe as a tv series on MTV.  Granted, I have never read the comic book series, but this definitely better digestible in small chunks. After awhile, all of effects just wore off or they became over the top.  It could be because the first time you see it, it’s like wow. And when you see it in a new context there’s still the amazing factor. But after awhile, it just becomes too much.

And whatever you might think of Michael Cera, the supporting cast was just spot on. Plus the music was great. But it’s one of those films you’ll either love or hate, which I guess showed why it bombed as the box office but still have this huge cult following. My take away is, I can’t wait to see what else Edgar Wright does and I’d love to use him in a spot one day because the guy is a genius.
