Wow, this has been on my list for a number of years now and I just never could find the time to watch it, because I figured, I just needed to be in the mood to watch. And was I seriously missing out. This film is absolutely gorgeous. The fact that it’s a true story, interpreted in such a way to captivate the viewer and yet feel what it’s like to be inside of this character was pure genius.  Because the gimmick of first-person camera, looking out of only eye, could have failed miserably, but good old Schnabel pulled it off.

And as much as I’m not a fan of Schnabel’s art, you can’t argue with his films nor casting choices. Basquiat was just brilliant and the same could be said for Before Night Falls. But he was very rewarding of all the accolades this film deserved. A definite must-see.
