Now this is a heavy film. It’s slow, plays up some stereotypes of why I wouldn’t want to drive through some parts of middle America, but it’s a very simple and honest story: a girl looking for her father who’s out on bond and she risks losing her house if he doesn’t show up. Jennifer Lawrence definitely deserved her Oscar nomination. She’s tough and can carry a scene all on her own. There’s some strange characters, but her role and character brings out the humanity you expect in families.
